Full planning permission was recently obtained to bring back into use an historic building in the Upper Kings Street Conservation Area in the heart of the city centre which had suffered a long period of vacancy. Working for the asset management team at Chancerygate, Hourigan Planning secured the change of use from a commercial use to a nail and beauty salon (sui generis).
With a tenant already secured, it was imperative that a timely decision was achieved to enable the tenant to occupy the unit following their move from other premises in the city. Having worked hard to demonstrate to the City Council that the proposed new use would not create unsightly waste management issues in the street, and that the amenity of residential units in the upper floors would not be harmed, it has been pleasing to be able to deliver a positive result for both our client and the tenant, Janea.
The salon sits in a busy part of the city centre, so we were keen to secure the permission to bring the ground floor unit back into use and watch the area begin to flourish again. Now the salon has opened, it is making a positive contribution to not only the streetscene, but to the economy of the city centre which can only be good news.
